Barings strategically recruits for real estate companies

He will work with the company’s management team to develop the company’s Pan-Asian and Australian real estate platform, covering both equity and debt.

Financial services firm Barings has appointed John Ratcliffe to head the newly created Asia-Pacific real estate, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

Ratcliffe will be based in Sydney, where he will work closely with Duncan robertson, Head of the Asia Pacific Region and Head of the Global Business Development Group, to seek capital and expand Barings’ real estate footprint in the region. He will focus on Australia and Japan first, before exploring opportunities in China and other regions, as well as helping to raise capital from existing and new sources. He will report to Charles weeks, responsible for real estate equities Europe and Asia-Pacific to drive the growth of Baring’s third-party investment management business in the region.

The senior executive brings to the company over two decades of real estate industry experience, most recently with Challenger Real Estate, where he spent 12 years as Executive Director of Transactions and Capital Raising. Previously, he worked in asset management at Australian high-end residential and mixed-use developer Niecon Developments.

Regional ambitions

“Our real estate business in Asia has traditionally focused on working with our clients to deploy capital in the United States and Europe. By inviting John to join the company, we are now developing the capacity to invest locally, ”Weeks said in the release.

Barings Real Estate offers a range of global investment opportunities in the private debt and equity investment markets. It invests in all major real estate sectors and offers a wide range of financing solutions to real estate borrowers.
