Written by: Daniel Richard

Coolness & Believe
Coolness That You Can Believe In!

Where all things are possible when you portray coolness and totally believe in achieving what once was though as unattainable.

This being a blogging based site, what better way to bring value and focus in this blogging topic by letting you in on how your blog can go from normal to absolute coolness over in the web with the following 10 points.

Editor’s Note: Before we go on, I’d have to let you know first that this would be a huge article and you might want to bookmark this post first for you to refer back again and again to make your blog super awesome! You too can subscribe to this blog to get more of the great stuff here for free. Enjoy the read!

1. Write a (another freaking good) Top 10 list

Here’s by far one of the most overused methods that’s been featured in many mainstream and traditional media ever since the days of… Readers Digest – or any other print article you seen earlier than that.

Even up till today, whenever I see a Top 10 list of on blogs, newspapers, and not forgetting even in videos, I’d be happy to read through from #1 to #10 (or the other way around)!

Make sure that your readers learn something cool and interesting in the list. That will up you blog’s coolness factor.

2. Titles: Master the art of writing awesome headlines

That’s because you really need to have headlines that’s beyond interesting to capture the attention of your readers (and other stumblers and diggers that appear almost by chance) and get them reading on in your article!

Rather than plainly saying “Top 10 Ways To Go From Normal To Cool”, go play around with the wordings and the punctuations and you would end up like the one you see here: “10 Things: Absolute Coolness That You Can Believe In”.

Yes, writing headlines is an art. It’s either you practice, practice, and practice, or you can take your wallet out and hire someone to do it for you.

3. Communicate, Network, and Notify

Communicate with other bloggers in the same niche. Even if they are highly established as an authority blogger, or probably a high flier in a huge corporation who owns a blog, we are all still human beings and we could do with a little more interaction.

Networking is by large one of the biggest things ever that any new writer should do since day one. You can learn from your network of people in the same niche. Let me rephrase that. You should learn a thing or two from the people who you have established a connection with in your network. They are the ones who will help you to get you off from ground zero, and you too will be a huge help to someone else who are willing to learn from you.

Notify other bloggers about your freshly published article! It is okay to ping one another from time to time. But please, make sure that it’s good before you hit the send button via email or anywhere else.

I’ve yet to mention, but how you represent yourself in these 3 aspects in both on blog and off blog that builds and sets your reputation.

4. Content is still king, but…

It’s the design that still rocks.

I am a firm believer that content is still the strongest way to measure a blog’s worth. However, there’s more to it than just the content on a site. There’s another huge factor in making your blog from normal to uber coolness. And that would be the overall design of your site.

I dare say that the owner of the blogs that I usually follow have made a huge effort in having a design that fits the theme of their site, with layouts and colors that work well together, and that all in all the entire look and feel of the site compliments the excellence that the writer has.

That means to say, you have to watch out for the following 3 details to ensure that a certain standard of quality is there to build up your blog’s brand:

  • i. Logo

This would usually be the first thing any new reader will see when they first visit any blog. A great looking logo doesn’t have to be fanciful, but it surely should avoid looking like it cost 5 dollars. Logos can look simple, and yet stands out on its own. The best approach is still to go for awesome – cos’ that what will make your blog totally remarkable!

  • ii. Layout

Is there any certain flow to your site? Are necessary widgets and blog essentials included in the sidebars or footer? 2 columns or 3 columns styled theme?

Those are some of the few questions that might get into the head of any blog owner or designer at the very first days when the blog is newly launched (or about to be launched).

The best way to make a decision on the choice of layout would be to ask yourself these 2 questions: How effective would you get your articles read, and how easy is it for the reader to navigate to the other great entries in your blog? Get these 2 answers out first, find the right fit for your blog, then think about how you are going to monetize the site how much real estate space would be needed to be used without compromising the overall look of the site.

  • iii. Length

This refers to the overall height of any given page.

As a post / page gets longer, is it still easier for the reader to continue reading without having their eyes wander about in the white space after sometime?

My trick is to have a left border to ensure that the reader knows where to fix the eyes upon by default as they scan through the words in the post. This acts as a distraction to keep the eyes off the blank areas that can be quite prominent after awhile with a rather lengthy article.

5. Make your readers read!

I hope that this is one of the reasons to why you write articles day in and day out – to get your readers to read your blog!

Do every single thing (especially at the start) to make your articles seen! Shout it out, optimize your headers, connect and communicate with your friends, increase your vocabulary, play around with words and phrases, use metaphors, go philosophical and write with an aspect of eternity, write a series on fine articles such as making your dreams turn into reality, be cool and awesome, and of course be authentic regardless if you are using a pen name or your real name to represent your blog.

But apart from doing all that mentioned above, never ever miss out on the one of the simplest and basic ways to get your readers to read. That is, to ask.

  • i. For reading your new article:

“Please do check out this new article on how you can build a cool and way awesome blog in 10 effective ways.”

  • ii. For commenting in the entry:

“Could you help out by adding on to this topic or show some praises and create a conversation through the comments section?”

  • iii. For subscribing to your blog:

“Don’t mind if you could subscribe via the end of the post if you liked this article? Thanks!”

You need to start asking around for a view and get relevant feedback to the blog article. If you haven’t tried asking before, do it today. Make sure you have a great entry on hand before you start to ask around for people to read your article, shout it out to their network if they find it very valuable, and totally enjoyed every single word from the post that you’ve made.

6. Complimenting: Go make someone’s day a great one

Here’s one tip that helps you to not only become an absolutely cool person, but also makes you into a totally remarkable person too. That’s right, go compliment someone if you haven’t done so at all!

The truth is that there’s a huge sea of blogs out there that doesn’t see much traffic but has a writer that’s really good and consistent in his or her work. Probably they don’t have the best blog design installed, or have absolutely zero knowledge in sharing the blog out to the world.

You can be of a huge help by complimenting and furthering extending your arm to offer a shout out onto your social networks if they would like to have their works broadcast for a wider audience to enjoy. This is the best opportunity to be the good guy by making someone’s day a great one.

7. Audacity for optimal results

To be audacious is to be bold, daring, confident, and maybe to a point of arrogance, but not till the extend of cockiness. You can try doing things out of the norm, and might want to give it a shot and liberate yourself from conventional wisdom in regards to creating and building a super cool blog.

Here are some of the things that I’ve done with this blog which goes against the flow of what would be conventional practices in blogging:

I too believe that there are more ways to go audacious and get only the optimal results for your blog. Those are only some of the easier ones that can be done without being too shy about it.

What’s your take in being audacious? You have to share it in the comments or send out an email to me (found in the contact page).

8. Giving your best

One thing that I dare say that sets the pro-bloggers apart from normal bloggers, and social-media superstars from normal social media users, is that the pros and superstars give their best from the start, during the growth period of their blogs, and also even up till today where best is still a standard that can be kept consistently.

The pro-bloggers will write their best and readers will know the authenticity of the articles and give the thumbs up and spread the articles to their networks to enjoy and engage in the conversation, while the social-media superstars will dedicate their best with their time and create powerful and fruitful relationships with the people and customers.

I believe that as you give your best, others too will give their best back and multiply the efforts to get your blog off the normal zone and way up into absolute coolness!

9. Community: Gathering the Pros, Semi-Pros, and welcoming the rest of the world

This is when you start to have a bigger vision than just having a normal blog with a handful of readers who goes on to give praises to your good articles day in and out.

An absolutely awesome blog should have sights on creating new communities! Where each community is a huge market on its own, with different needs being filled through your blog and articles. A community is where the pros and semi-pros will be active in, adding value along the way while allowing the rest of the world who stumbles onto or find your blog through organic search or linkbacks to be part of and feel welcomed to stay and grow together with you.

That is what a strong community should be! And an awesome blog like yours may be the answer to someone’s problems today.

10. Offer an opportunity to receive more from your blog

Now that you’ve been writing remarkable content, built up a totally awesome looking website, and have been considered a gem of a discovery for being one of the best websites found by other bloggers and readers to date, you should have avenues opened up for them to be able to get more from your blog!

Offer your readers the opportunity to get more by letting them subscribe to your RSS feed, get email updates, direct Twitter updates, and even get to connect to you through Facebook and other social networks like Digg, StumbleUpon, just to name a few.

It will make your blog super awesome when you give your readers an easier time to get fantastic updates from you.

  • I use all the techniques you mentioned above, still when I read this articles, it seem that I still have more to learn and there are some more trick to practice and perfected.

#2, I had try to used sometimes a very provocative title like today post, "Let Get Nude" some people get offended by the title but the purpose it to make them read.

#7, I don't post a lot of my picture around but I do post and send many of my post to my esteem friend for their opinion. I do on occasion make their opinion count by making them a star in my next post.

Well at least this is how I try to make my blog awesome.

As far as #5 which asks you to add to the discussion, this works for me (as SecondWorld knows all too well!)And you got me on the menu bar buttons not working --- although I was at first irritated and wrote you a note saying the link did not work. Still not sure if that is cool, but the rest of your blog makes the missing link okay.

  • These are certainly super awesome tips for blogging success! And you're definitely right about design. You can have amazing content, but if your design sucks, no one will get to it, or may get irritated while trying. Of course, that is what RSS is for! :)
